The challenge

Customer's certified welder workforce had dropped from 26 to 11 in three years. Backlog grew to 14 weeks and the firm was turning down work on simple, repetitive weldments because the welders' time belonged on complex one-off jobs.

What we built

Two Yaskawa AR2010 arms on opposite sides of a Koike-Aronson 5-axis positioner. Touch sensing aligns to part variations, and Through-Arc Seam Tracking maintains the bead on long runs. Welding procedure specifications were qualified per AWS D1.1 with the customer's CWI.

Key equipment

  • Yaskawa AR2010 ×2
  • Koike-Aronson 5-axis positioner
  • Lincoln Power Wave R450
  • Through-Arc Seam Tracking

Results

Deposition rate ran 2.4× the manual benchmark, backlog cleared in 9 weeks, and certified welders moved to one-off jobs the cell cannot run.
